Lucienne Arnold Memorial Nursing Scholarship

Edith and Arthur Arnold established the Lucienne Arnold Memorial Nursing Scholarship to honor their daughter who passed away during a tragic accident. The scholarship is for nursing students at 做厙輦⑹. Both Mr. and Mrs. Arnold were dedicated to serving others through the nursing and medical professions.

Joe Bothwell Memorial Scholarship

Established to recognize and honor former LSC student Joe Bothwell. Joe was a giving, loving man who believed in community service and making each life he touched better. Joe demonstrated tremendous personal responsibility and dedication. While studying health careers at LSC, he also enjoyed the arts. Joe created the large sculpture on display on the LSC campus which reflects the beauty of life, and the harmony and connectedness people have with nature.

Kim Chapman Memorial Scholarship

This Scholarship was created in memory of Kim Chapman, a Radiologic Technology student for new students in the Radiologic Technology program. This scholarship can be used for books, tuition, fees, and state board exams. Applicants should intend to earn a degree in the program.

Mason Storm DeRosier Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established to honor Mason Storm DeRosier by his parents Richard and Lisa. Mason was an award-winning serviceman in the Air National Guard as a firefighter for the 148th Fighter Wing. He was deployed to Kuwait for Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon returning home from deployment, Mason was pursuing his Paramedic licensure at St. Cloud State University. He tragically passed away on April 9, 2015, three days before his 22nd birthday. He was also a nationally registered Emergency Medical Technician. The scholarship is for a firefighting and/or EMT related program student determined to complete the program and enter the field.

Harold P. Erickson Scholarship

The Erickson Memorial Endowed Scholarship was created in memory of former 做厙輦⑹ President Harold P. Erickson. It is awarded to a returning student intending to earn a two-year diploma or degree.

Diane Gilbey Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship honors Diane Faye Carlson Gilbey who graduated from Duluth VoTech in 1981 as an LPN. Diane loved working with children and young adults. During her career, she was an advocate for the clients she served, above all else. She was a behavioral analyst and nurse for the State of Minnesota for 31 years and excelled in her work serving children with special needs.

Dennis Godfrey Memorial Auto Service Technology Scholarship

Dennis was an Auto Service Technology instructor for 10 years at LSC. He was well liked and appreciated by his students and co-workers, and well known in the Twin Ports auto world. Dennis passed away unexpectedly due to complications related to a heart condition. This scholarship was named in Dennis honor in recognition of his commitment to the Colleges Auto Service Technology program as well as his dedication to student success.

Joe Gomer Professional Pilot Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is being created to honor Joe Gomer and to support students enrolled in the 做厙輦⑹ Professional Pilot Program. This scholarship will be a lasting tribute to Minnesotas only living Tuskegee Airman. Joe learned to fly at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa City, Iowa the same school he graduated from in 1940. It is an honor for 做厙輦⑹ another Community and Technical College to be the home to this fitting tribute to Joe.

Laura Hamre Nursing Careers Memorial Scholarship

The Hamre family started the Laura Hamre Scholarship in the Spring of 2021 to help support students in nursing career programs at 做厙輦⑹. The scholarship was started in memory of Laura Hamre, an LPN at St. Luke’s and Lakeshore Lutheran Home in Duluth for almost 30 years. Later in life, Laura volunteered with the Block Nurse program in St. Paul. Laura was a caregiver and would be especially pleased to help nursing students achieve their academic and personal dreams.

Tom Hill Memorial Scholarship

Tom was a business manager and accounting instructor at the Duluth Area Vocational Technical Institute.泭 He was very committed to the students and their success.泭 Shortly after his death on August 5, 1981, the family donated memorial contributions to the school to start a scholarship fund in his memory. The funds purpose is to provide financial aid to students who intend to earn a diploma or degree in business related programs.

Lois Johns Memorial Welding Scholarship

Established in 2014 by Charles Johns in memory of his mother, Lois Breitenbach Johns. Lois was a finishing welder on submarines during WWII in Manitowoc, WI. Lois was very proud of her profession and was well known for her skill and precision.泭 In the early 1980s Lois took welding courses at what is now known as LSC for both enjoyment and to learn about how welding had changed since WWII. She later gave up the courses to ensure she wouldnt be taking a spot for a degree seeking student.泭 Lois was the wife of past Duluth Technical College Director Elden Johns.

Rick Kobus Memorial Automotive Scholarship

Rick was a well-known local car buff whose passion in life was working on cars. He restored cars for more than 40 years. This scholarship was established in 2013 by Kobus longtime girlfriend, Jackie Carlson and his children, Todd Kobus & Tara Kobus. This scholarship is for a second-year student enrolled in the automotive program at LSC. Proceeds from a classic car show in Ricks honor helped create the fund.

Odin Langsjoen Dental Hygiene Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was started to memorialize Dr. Odin Odie Langsjoen, a mentor to hundreds of dentists and dental hygienists who he taught over the years.泭 After years in private practice in St. Cloud, Odie began teaching at the U of M Dental School where he became head of Dental Anatomy, and later Chair of the UMD Dental Hygiene program.泭 He served as president of the Minnesota Dental Association and the American College of Dentist.泭 In retirement Odie did extensive research and then wrote on dental pathology of Mummies with Dr. Art Aufderheide of Duluth. Odin Langsjoen He was a pillar of the dental community here in Duluth, throughout Minnesota as well as nationally.泭 Odie was a driving force in creating this program and this scholarship is a lasting tribute to his dedication and commitment to education and the dental profession. It supports Dental Hygiene Students with college cost and licensure fees.

Jack Moon Scholarship at LSC

This scholarship was created in the fall of 2023 in partnership with the trust for the estate of Jack Moon held at Wells Fargo. It is for students enrolled in a trade program. There is a similar scholarship managed by the Duluth Denfeld High School.

Flora Oveson Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Bong Book Club in 2015 which meets at the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center in Superior, WI. Flora was instrumental in starting the Book Club in 2004. Her passion was flying. She received her private pilots license for land and sea in 1987. She flew many times to Alaska in a single-engine Cessna 172.

Art Pulford Sociology Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is established to honor Art Pulford’s 30-year career in the fields of criminal justice and corrections.泭 During his career Art also taught in the sociology departments at 做厙輦⑹ and University of Minnesota-Duluth.泭 Art immensely enjoyed his engagement with students and felt a responsibility to share his expertise and experiences with them.泭 Art valued students who worked hard to succeed, especially those who demonstrated tremendous personal integrity a trait that Art valued greatly in life.

Kat Ramsland Memorial Art Scholarship

Kat Ramsland was a beloved art instructor, touching the lives of hundreds of students. She taught digital photography, art history, art appreciation, and ceramics among others over her 14 years at 做厙輦⑹. Her tragic death has prompted friends and family to create the Kat Ramsland Memorial Art Scholarship.

Mimi Robertson Memorial Nursing Scholarship

Established in 2023 by Dave Robertson as a memorial to his late wife Mimi who was a skilled and compassionate registered nurse (RN). During her 40-year career she specialized in obstetrics, helping mothers through the birthing process and caring for newborns. She also taught childbirth classes for many years at St. Lukes Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota.

Linda Sillanpa Memorial Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship was named after the late Linda Sillanpa, a wonderfully talented nurse, instructor and person. Linda taught medical nursing in a clinical setting at St. Marys / Duluth Clinic (SMDC) and St. Lukes from the mid-1990s through 2003, all while continuing her work as a nurse at St. Marys Hospital. Lindas commitment to teaching at 做厙輦⑹s nursing program, coupled with her passion for education, led to the creation of this scholarship in 2003. Caring about others was the center of Linda’s life whether it was her friends, nursing students at LSC, or all her patients at SMDC Hospital. She worked incredibly hard in both jobs because it meant so much to her to see people live and do well. She was pursuing a master’s degree in nursing so she could teach full time. She often said she felt loved, and it felt good to be so loved in return.” This dedication is why friends and family decided to start a scholarship at LSC.
